Hankinson Duckett Associates (HDA) is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Ecologist / Ecologist to join our friendly team within our continually growing practice.

About us

HDA was established 20 years ago, and has grown to around 20 members of full-time staff, including ecologists, landscape architects and specialists in arboriculture and built heritage.  Our broad range of expertise allows a comprehensive approach to project work which adds value and interest through innovative and appropriate solutions.  We have a national client base of both private and public sector clients, and our advice is sought at all stages of the planning and design process for major development and environmental projects, as well as smaller scale schemes.

What we do

Our work involves protected species and habitat surveys, ecological assessment and EcIA, and design and implementation of mitigation schemes, habitat creation and management works.  We also co-ordinate Environmental Statements, carry out landscape assessment and design, and provide arboricultural surveys and advice.  For examples of the wide range of projects the successful applicant will be involved with, please see our website www.hda-enviro.co.uk.

Applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Education to at least BSc/HND level in a relevant discipline;
  • A true passion for wildlife and a good knowledge of British fauna and flora;
  • Competence in Phase 1 habitat surveys and broad range of protected species surveys;
  • A full driving licence and car ownership;
  • Good report writing and communication skills;
  • Familiarity with nature conservation legislation;
  • Competence in standard office software including MS Word, Excel etc.
  • Hold or qualify for membership of CIEEM (GradCIEEM, ACIEEM or MCIEEM).

It would be advantageous for applicants to have previous experience in ecological consultancy and hold a survey licence for at least one European Protected Species.
