The Advocacy Officer’s primary responsibilities will be to:  Assist the Policy & Advocacy Programme Manager with the development of policy to improve the legal protection of IBAs and KBAs in South Africa.  Manage the general casework system for BLSA.  Coordinate BLSA’s participation in development applications which threaten IBAs and KBAs.  Maintain databases, including GIS databases, for development applications.  Commission and coordinate specialist studies where and when necessary. The inherent requirements for this position are:  BSc Hons (preferably MSc) in environmental management, environmental science, geography or related degree.  Proven good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems.  Fluency in written and spoken English
