Overview

We are looking to appoint Boating Officers to run our small boat operations at Rothera and King Edward Point (KEP) research stations.

At Rothera you will spend a lot of time on the water supporting research tasks including diving operations, instrument deployment and passenger/equipment transfers. You will also provide a local Search and Rescue capability and an important recreational facility for your colleagues.

At KEP you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of 5m RIBs and 10m jet drive harbour launches supporting the boating operation for the Government of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands. This will include fishery vessel inspections and boating support of science projects. You should have experience as a coxswain on both RIBs, jet drives, and just as importantly, have a good level of boat maintenance experience.

Working in sometimes difficult conditions you will get to experience some of the most stunning scenery on Earth, learn to navigate safely in ice conditions and observe the whales, seals and penguins that inhabit this amazing environment.

If you are an experienced boat handler with a love of the sea and hard work and you are after a different and truly unforgettable boating job, this could be the role for you.
