Description
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for a Geophysicist to join the Ice Dynamics & Palaeoclimate Team for 10 weeks. For this post, you will be processing ground-based radar data sets acquired for ice streams and other locations in Antarctica. You will have excellent time management skills to organise your workload, have good IT skills in using Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn the use of geophysical/mathematical software packages.

Purpose
Process ground-based radar data sets acquired from ice streams and other locations in Antarctica

Qualification
BSc-level or above in geophysics, or similar numerate physical sciences discipline (e.g. physics, engineering). This includes students just about to complete degrees this year.

Duties

  • Process lines and grids of radar data
  • Processes corresponding kinematic GPS data and integrate with radar data
  • Pick reflecting horizons from the ice bed and within the ice
  • Quality control and error checking
  • Gridding and preliminary analysis of resulting processed data sets
