Children of Conservation seeks a visionary, forward-thinking Executive Director with exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to solving the urgent challenges to conservation across Africa through projects that mutually benefit humanity and the animals.  Children of Conservation is a unique organization that works with wildlife rescue and conservation centers throughout Africa to sponsor humanitarian projects which promote the conservation of endangered animals while leading to a positive sustainable impact on both the animals and the people in the communities that protect them. Children of Conservation’s work includes a scholarship program that provides funding for an otherwise unattainable education for the children of wildlife center workers, a middle school in Zambia, a health clinic in Uganda and other similar projects.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director will provide the organization with vision and leadership to enable Children of Conservation to continuously enhance its mission and goals through fundraising, effective management and program development.

The Executive Director will be an advocate for and representative of Children of Conservation and its critical role in providing sustainable solutions to wildlife conservation in Africa.  The Executive Director will deliver programs that address critical and long-term needs, and source global partnerships to bring intellectual, technical and financial resources to those programs.

As the leader of an organization that provides programs throughout Africa, the Executive Director is also responsible for managing and working through complex cultural issues and for balancing the diverse needs of projects being implemented in different third world countries with varying needs and restrictions.  The ideal candidate would also be capable of effective communications in French and English environments.

Job responsibilities include:

·         Leading the development and implementation of long- and short-term strategic plans and objectives to enhance the organization’s objectives.

·         Leading fundraising efforts including the cultivation of individual donors, foundations, corporations and other contributors and overseeing of gift and grant stewardship.

·         Ensuring sound operational and financial management. Developing organization plans, budgets and financial controls and ensuring appropriate communication to the Board of Directors.

·         Ensuring the organization’s compliance with all appropriate Children of Conservation, nonprofit and funder policies and regulations.

·         Demonstrating a leadership role of respect and collaboration among staff, Board and partners.

·         Advising the Board of Directors, implementing recommended tasks, and providing reports to the Board according to organization policies.

·         Recruiting and managing volunteers and consultants to fully accomplish goals in fundraising, operations, and program development.

·         Increasing media presence via traditional and social media.

·         Anticipating changes in the conservation landscape, recognizing the unique issues that arise from operating in multiple third world countries with varying types of leadership and support.

·         Managing and implementing event fundraisers.

The Executive Director should have an entrepreneurial spirit and a demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality services in a mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, outgoing and forward-thinking individual who has shown success in building widespread support for an international organization that primarily serves needs abroad through collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders.

Desired traits include:

·         Sincere commitment to the welfare and conservation of endangered species in third world countries and to the sustainable empowerment of humanity through conservation.

·         Strong experience in a leadership and supervisory position in the nonprofit community.

 

·         Strong interpersonal skills and an inclusive leadership style that supports and fosters collaboration; a team player and team leader.

·         Proven ability to inspire and secure leadership gifts from donors.

·         Critical thinking skills, integrity, good judgement, strong organizational skills and logical priority-setting skills.

·         Financial literacy, excellent written and oral communications skills, and confidence and skill in public speaking.

·         An undergraduate degree required; an advanced degree preferred.

·         Proficiency in English is required; fluency in French is highly desirable. Skills and/or strategies to be effective in Francophone environments are required.

·         Good understanding of the complex and evolving landscape of wildlife conservation.

·         National and, sometimes, international travel will be required, as well as irregular hours.

Compensation and location:

·         Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

·         Prefer candidate who lives or is willing to re-locate to the metro-Atlanta, Georgia area - however, this is not a requirement.  Extensive time in Atlanta will be required during fundraising events and time leading up to same.
