Description The Blue Economy program is a new effort of Conservation International’s (CI) Center for Oceans. This initiative focuses on fostering a sustainable development framework that integrates conservation, subsistence use, and ocean-based sustainable production systems, including fisheries, tourism, oil and mineral wealth extraction, bioprospecting, sustainable energy production, and marine transport. The Blue Economies program will work from the local to the national level to achieve the following: Position the value of ocean ecosystems within economic development agendas using ecosystem services valuation, natural capital accounting, natural capital protocols for ocean-related industries, and impact mitigation protocols.
