Overview
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.
An opportunity has arisen in the Polar Data Centre (PDC), a constituent part of the BAS, Science Information Systems group, for a temporary data manager/software developer. The successful candidate will work within a small team that develop, implement, manage, operate and maintain information services across a broad range of science disciplines.
You will have proven ability in scientific data management from within a principally Linux computing environment coupled with self-reliance and strong motivation.
The appointment will be for approximately 17 months, commencing in May 2017.
Qualifications: Experience in Linux administration, a knowledge of science data management, data handling techniques, and general programming skills are essential. Candidates should have a minimum of an HNC in a computing related subject and, ideally, several years’ experience.
Duration: Fixed Term Appointment (17 Months)
Salary: In the range of £28,200 to £30,600 per annum
