The team in the Mahaanui District delivers a broad range of terrestrial and marine conservation work from the Rakaia River in the south to the Conway River in the north.  This includes the South Island’s largest urban centre of Christchurch and the spectacular Banks Peninsula.  The District manages a native plant nursery, an offshore island with exceptional biodiversity values, has a base at Akaroa and a visitor centre in the city centre.  The District is one of the five sites nationally where DOC works with Fonterra on its Living Water programme and we have a very supportive community who are enthusiastic about a predator free Banks Peninsula.
