Do you have a strong commitment to the ethos of Friends of the Lake District (FLD) which is to conserve and enhance the landscape and natural beauty of the Lake District and Cumbria?  If so, we would like to hear from you as we are seeking to appoint a Director who has outstanding ability in this field of work.

Reporting to the Chair of Trustees and its Executive Committee, the Director will lead the strategic direction of the organisation, set Budgets and manage outputs through an annual Action Plan.  As a member of the Management Team, the Director will take collective responsibility for the management of the organisation.

As an ambassador for FLD, the Director will be a confident and articulate spokesperson who has a proven track record of developing productive working relationships with diverse external organisations and stakeholders, as well as experience of working with public and political decision making processes.

Influencing skills at a high level are essential to take this lead advocacy role for FLD, commanding respect, trust and the confidence of stakeholders both within and external to the organisation.

With a proven track record of strategic leadership, the Director will work with Trustees and staff to engender a positive organisational culture, ensuring staff motivation, empowerment and fostering team working. This will be coupled with a proactive approach to delivering change management.

With substantial experience and knowledge of developing a strategic overview of landscape issues and policy, particularly in relation to nationally designated landscapes, the Director will also have an understanding of practical land management issues.
