Overview

Rebuilding tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Blue Ventures develops transformative approaches for nurturing and sustaining locally led marine conservation. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to protecting marine biodiversity in ways that benefit coastal people.

We have a number of interdisciplinary marine conservation programmes in Madagascar and the western Indian Ocean region, and are working to drive adoption of our models by partners with the aim of reaching 3 million people by 2020.

Summary job description

Blue Ventures is currently recruiting a Fundraising & Development Officer to lead our programme fundraising, supporting a range of existing marine conservation initiatives as well as securing resources for new activities by presenting needs in a compelling way to donors. The position requires close knowledge of both programme and donor requirements in order to maximise opportunities for advancing our work.

This is a pivotal role within our UK-based team, working with senior managers to support programme development as well as with field colleagues and partner organisations to ensure the resourcing of effective, scalable marine conservation interventions in line with our mission.

The position facilitates innovation in marine conservation by securing resources needed for the development and uptake of our models, which are designed to engage coastal communities in marine management. The position offers excellent opportunities to contribute to our vision, helping to fight the downward trajectories that so many small-scale fisheries and tropical marine ecosystems are experiencing.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced conservation or development professional with a proven track record in grant proposal writing and programme design. You will thrive in environments that are dynamic, fast-paced, collegiate and ambitious, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with funders, deliver high quality written work and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines reliably.

The role entails working as part of an interdisciplinary and international team, with excellent opportunities for professional development. The successful candidate will report to Blue Ventures’ Executive Director, and will be based in one of our UK offices in London or Bristol, with occasional overseas travel to work with field colleagues and partner organisations.
