Overview

As one of the UK’s leading environmental and engineering consultancies, Wardell Armstrong LLP are looking for a Graduate Ecologist to join the Stoke-on-Trent office.

The role will involve assisting with a wide variety of ecological projects and conducting protected species and Phase 1 Habitat surveys as well as providing support and advice to clients relating to ecological issues. Other duties will involve the production of reports and liaison with clients and colleagues.
Applicants must have a degree in Ecology or a closely related subject and preferably previous experience of performing a variety of survey types within a consultancy environment. The ability to be able to work as part of a team is essential as is knowledge of relevant UK legislation. Applicants must be highly motivated and be able to demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in Ecology.

Essential:

A degree in a relevant science or a closely related field.
Good communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise reports;
Competency in the survey of one or more of the following key protected species; bats, great crested newts, dormouse, badgers, reptiles, water voles and / or otters;
Up to date knowledge of, and familiarity with new technologies and best practice guidelines;
Up to date knowledge of EU and UK legislation and policy;
Good communication skills to enable effective liaison with colleagues;
Excellent team working skills;
Be prepared to work anti-social hours during peak survey season and travel throughout the UK,
A full and clean driving licence.

Desirable:
The ability to design, plan and lead on a variety of ecological surveys (including Extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys and protected species surveys);
Experience of providing assistance during the preparation of EPSM licences for one or more of the following: bats, great crested newts and/ or dormice.
At least one protected species survey licence (in particular GCN);
Experience of Ecological Clerk of Works duties.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
