Background and Context

During the past century populations of threatened species such as elephants, rhinos and Tigers have plummeted due to a multitude of threats, with one of the major drivers acknowledged as consumption of their parts, products or derivatives. During the past decade poaching of these taxonomic groups has reached record levels, and action to starve the supply of, and reduce the demand for, products such as elephant ivory, rhino horn and Tiger bones and skins, is now being taken by governments, business and civil society actors.
