Our seas face a wide range of threats and 90% of global fish stocks are already fished at or above their maximum capacity and our demand for seafood is set to increase. Aquaculture is rapidly expanding to meet this demand, but if this is done badly it can also damage the environment and exacerbate these other problems. Consumer awareness regarding the sustainability of seafood has been increasing in recent years, and it was this demand for knowledge that led to MCS publishing the Good Fish Guide in 2002.
