One graduate assistantship will be available starting June or July 2016 to work on determining the population status and threats to the Red-Crowned Parrot (Amazona viridigenalis) in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Research will include a mix of field activities (locating roost and nests, counting birds at roosts, and determining the range of the species), GIS analysis (Maxent modelling, land use land cover analysis, range mapping, etc), and building a network of citizen science collaborators. Experience with both field work and GIS are very strongly recommended. Students will enroll in an MS degree program in Texas A&M in College Station and spend significant time (>7 months) resident in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
