MSc or PhD opportunity to investigate duck nesting success enhanced by hen houses and predator reduction in parkland habitats of Alberta. Poor nest success in mallards has mainly been linked to egg predation in nests. Hen houses have been successfully implemented in Manitoba and Saskatchewan parkland habitats, but their potential to increase nest success in Alberta remains unknown. This project will evaluate usage and nest success rates in Alberta Hen Houses during 2015-2017 nesting seasons. This project will also evaluate the effectiveness of predator trapping on nest success, local duck populations and duckling survival. Research will be conducted in parkland habitat in central Alberta, near the communities of Bashaw, Red Deer and Stettler. Start at University of Alberta in January 20
