POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Assistant will provide support for the Global Water Atlas, whose objective is to demonstrate that water funds can contribute to achieving both water security and co-benefits (e.g. biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, health and well-being). She/he will undertake secondary research using online searches of policy papers, peer-review journal articles, and other reputable sources, and as necessary may reach out directly to internal and external experts for additional information. She/he will report to the Project Manager within the Global Water Program. She/he may, as requested, also summarize information and provide written contributions to the Atlas report and/or website.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Research Assistant works with the Manager of the Global Water Atlas to provide background information in support of the Atlas’ arguments. She/he will receive direction from the Manager as to the types of information that are required and will use her/his background knowledge and initiative to identify the most relevant pieces of information and provide them in a timely manner. She/he will also, as requested, and time permitting, provide additional support to the Global Water Atlas; this may include writing, editing, and providing input on overall content. The Research Assistant is expected to maintain organized and comprehensive records of the sources of all information that she/he collects and to build a basic system (in Word, Excel, or another program) for capturing and updating those records, so that Atlas team members will easily be able to trace back all information to its source.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Conduct secondary research to provide facts and figures, along with reputable statements, in support of Atlas arguments.
  • Maintain a basic system for capturing all information and linking it to its original source.
  • May write material for the Atlas report and/or website.
  • May assist in editing Atlas report and/or website text.
  • May provide additional basic support services as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree in natural resources; environmental studies or equivalent combination of education and 6 months experience.
  • Secondary research experience in water security, biodiversity conservation, health and well-being, carbon mitigation, climate adaptation, or related fields.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
  • Excel and Word expertise
  • Excellent writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Multi-language skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Time management skills
