Job Purpose 

Conduct measurements of telomere length from blood samples collected as part of two long-term studies: the Crichton dairy cattle herd and the St Kilda Soay sheep. The job will involve working as part of a large, interdisciplinary research team and potentially involve visits to field sites, use of MS Access and Excel databases, organisation of large blood sample freezer banks, DNA extraction work, real-time quantitative PCR and southern blotting. 

Main Responsibilities 

• DNA extraction from blood samples (Approx % of time 50) 
• qPCR measurement of leukocyte telomere length (Approx % of time 20) 
• Analysis and management of telomere length data (Approx % of time 20)
