Overview

The Ecology Co-op is a rapidly expanding ecology consultancy based in West Sussex, Kent and South Wales. Further to a growing work portfolio in the public and private sector, we are looking for a senior or principal level ecologist to join our team. The candidate would be based in our head office in West Sussex, however flexible working terms are available.

The Ecology Co-op offers something unique in our industry. The successful candidate will be given shares in company that you work for, meaning that you will benefit directly from the profitability of the company each year through dividend payments. This is in addition to generous TOIL and an annual bonus to remunerate for overtime worked during busy periods in the summer. A substantial training budget will be made available each year and if necessary a company vehicle can also be provided.

We are looking for individuals with a successful track record in delivering high quality technical work in relation to bats.  You will have experience in designing and undertaking bat survey work and will be registered on a Natural England survey licence for bats at Class level 2 or above.

In addition to undertaking bat work you will also have the opportunity to undertake a broader range of ecological work.  Experience of project management, proposal preparation, working with other environmental disciplines, and liaising with clients and consultees will all be essential attributes for the successful candidate. Experience working with other protected species is of course desirable.

Key Responsibilities

You will work closely with the team in Sussex as well as collaborating with our staff in Kent and South Wales. This will be on a wide variety of projects, which are likely to include Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, mitigation and habitat creation, a variety of protected species surveys and European Protected Species licenses. Whilst we seek someone with a specialism in bat surveying, the role will include the opportunity to work on a variety of surveys and projects.  Dependent upon your skills, experience and interests, you will coach less experienced staff, and manage projects or tasks within multi-disciplinary projects.

Skills / Qualifications

–       Qualified to degree level or equivalent in ecology or a related subject.

–       An MSc or PhD in a relevant subject would be beneficial but is not essential.

–       You will hold a Natural England survey licence for bats (minimum Class 2).

–       Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) will be essential (or at least the ability to quickly gain membership).

–       A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role as is the flexibility to work unsocial hours and to work away on site when required.

To apply for this exciting role please send your CV and covering letter to jaycee@ecologyco-op.co.uk. If you require any additional information or guidance please contact Paul Whitby on 01798 861800. We aim to answer all CVs via email within 7 working days after the closing date, which is the 30th of November 2017.
