Overview

Purpose of the Position: The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is one of the largest biodiversity conservation NGOs in southern Africa. The primary responsibilities of this position will be the overseeing of alien clearing and wetland rehabilitation together with other general Threatened Amphibian Programme operational requirements.

Reporting line: Threatened Amphibian Programme (TAP) Manager

Qualifications and Experience required:
• A minimum of a three-year degree in the natural sciences or other relevant field;
• Knowledge of alien invasive plant clearing and rehabilitation is desirable;
• Good writing skills and a proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programmes;
• A sound, working knowledge of general ecology;
• Excellent research and data collection skills;
• Experience in environmental education;
• Excellent communication, time management skills and strong people skills with an approachable manner;
• Proficiency in spoken Zulu is an added advantage;
• Good project management skills (including budget management and HR administration);
• Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and network effectively;
• Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems software is an added advantage;
• High degree of self-motivation and pro-activity, good administrative skills and good organisation skills;
• Possession of a valid South African driver’s license, and suitable driving experience;
• Willingness to travel regularly;

Key performance areas:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the EWT eThekwini TAP – Natural Resource Management project; which includes project supervision, logistics, administrative tasks, networking and communication;
• Develop a Natural Resource Management strategy in consultation with a range of relevant stakeholders;
• Assist with the recruitment, coordination, training and supervision of teams for clearing and rehabilitating all sites;
• Facilitate and organise the training of the project teams and micro-enterprise participants;
• Monitor and document rehabilitation work through standardised and innovative protocols taking into account ecological research requirements;
• Collaborate with local municipalities and relevant landowners;
• Facilitate and participate in Learning Exchanges between partners and other agencies;
• Carry out tasks for existing and new TAP projects, including field work, raising public awareness, fundraising and proposal writing, and general support of the TAP manager.
