Hawaii galliformes seed dispersal study: I am looking for a 4-month research volunteer (May – August 2017) to assist in a study of seed dispersal by galliformes (turkey, kalij pheasants, and Erckel’s franklins) at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, Hawaii Island. Objectives of the study are to quantify the role galliformes play in seed dispersal, identify which plant species are being dispersed, and how far they may be moved. Duties will include capturing birds, radio tagging and tracking, collection of fecal samples, and identification of seeds from fecal samples. This study is a component of a larger NSF funded study to understand forest restoration at multiple trophic levels, and will be combined with similar information already collected from forest birds (Passeriformes).
