Project Description The Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge (KPNWR) encompasses nearly 800 acres of coastal wetland, and coastal strand habitat that conserves biodiversity, including three species of endangered Hawaiian waterbirds, migratory shorebirds, waterfowl, seabirds, endangered and native plant species, endangered Hawaiian monk seals, and green sea turtles. Two key objectives for KPNWR include (1) Provide wildlife-dependent public use and educational opportunities to enhance public understanding and appreciation of its natural resources and (2) Enhance awareness, protection, and appreciation of historic and cultural resources for the education, inspiration and enrichment of the public in a spirit of stewardship and trusteeship for future generations.
