Our Countryside Worker apprenticeship programme provides opportunities for young people to work with Cumbria Wildlife Trust and gain hands-on experience in managing our natural heritage, wildlife and environment.

We are recruiting two apprentices to start in September 2022, one based in the South (Kendal) and one in the North (Carlisle) of Cumbria. A driving licence is required to take full advantage of this opportunity as you will work around the county.

Apprentices learn important life skills whilst enhancing their employment prospects. Our previous apprentices have progressed to exciting careers with the Wildlife Trust, John Muir Trust, North Pennines AONB and National Trust, as wildlife rangers, nature reserve officers, outdoor educators and more.

Once a fortnight, apprentices attend Craven College near Skipton, and receive a wide range of vocational training including first aid, tool use e.g. brushcutter, quad driving, dry stone walling and fencing . All travel and training expenses are covered by this scheme, thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
