Details

As a student in this course you will to explore the African bush using all of your senses and be part of a high-quality training as a FGASA or BQA certified Trails Guide within four weeks. Together with your international student team, an experienced guide and equipped with rifle and binoculars you go on daily bush excursions giving you the chance to explore the gigantic ecosystem’s animal and plant life in an incomparable way. Hands-on training involves tracking, navigation and survival training, mokoro and motorboat rides, sleep-outs in the bush and stargazing. Theoretical units like lectures and presentations about topics like ecology, zoology and meteorology are part of the course as well. Furthermore, a skilled Trails Guide must be able to lead safari tourists safely through the African bush – that’s why you also learn how to handle a rifle properly. The course is modular which enables you to join the course for two or four weeks – at a time or in parts.

A certificate of attendance will be given to students who take part in the course for personal enrichment. Students who aim at improving their skills on a professional level can gain three official qualifications as part of a final exam at the end of the course.

Accommodation

Kwapa training camp, located in Southern Okavango Delta, will be your home during your time in the course. You will sleep in a spacious wilderness style stent which provides a bed, a night table and LED-light. Moreover, the tent is connected to an ensuite-bathroom with a bucket shower and a typical “bush toilet”. On the veranda there is a pedestal sink and sitting accommodations. Besides the daily meals you will be offered tea and coffee throughout the day. The camp’s tap water has drinking water quality. You can purchase more drinks, if needed.
