The Zookeeper will provide care, feeding, enrichment and training for amphibians, birds, and reptiles and will ensure their well-being. This role contributes to outstanding guest experiences by ensuring that assigned exhibits are properly maintained. This position is a relief zookeeper and will split their time between the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Center, reporting to the Curator or Manager of the assigned department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care, including but not limited to, feeding and enrichment of the animals and ensure maintenance of animal life support systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain amphibians, birds, reptiles or fish habitats.
  • May design, install, and maintain aquatic life support systems.
