Job Description and Duties Plans, organizes, and conducts Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain elk surveys to estimate herd size, composition, habitat use, and distribution within Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Shasta, and Trinity counties in the Northern Region. Plans and implements inland elk capture activities using free-range darting and helicopter capture to affix GPS collars to determine habitat utilization, home range, and movement patterns. Responsible for monitoring elk populations and continuing to develop standardized protocols for estimating elk population parameters and factors affecting elk mortality and recruitment. Investigates the calving ecology of elk through habitat and vegetation survey, and the annual capture of elk calves. This data will be used to determine the proportion
