The southern Sierra Nevada population of fisher (Pekania pennanti) is listed as federally endangered and the Pacific marten (Martes caurina) is considered a sensitive species by the National Forests in the region. The Pacific Southwest Region 5 (R5) Carnivore Monitoring Program has been monitoring fisher, marten and other co-occurring carnivore species across Sierra Nevada forests since 2002 to assess population trends.
