Chalk streams are a characteristic and attractive feature of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. They support an abundance of wildlife and are much loved by the communities through which they flow.  They are however, amongst the most threatened of all chalk streams in the world as a result of factors such as physical modification, pollution, climate change and an ever-increasing demand for water.
