About the role

The goal of the field assistant is to work on our community development programs which aim to empower local community members in different areas. You will also guide and train our international participants, all while spending your time in the culture-rich area of Siem Reap.

The role entails assisting with daily operations of the projects, and base and volunteer management. On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for overseeing the volunteers, scheduling & logistics for project work, teaching classes as needed, maintaining social media, keeping records of project work, delivering training and orientations for new volunteers, and acting as a role model for volunteers.

About you

You are passionate about tackling social issues, from health and education to human rights.

A self-starter who rolls up their sleeves to get things done, and enjoys tackling a wide variety of tasks. You are flexible and enjoy challenges.

What you will do

  • Support the Program Manager and other staff in the running of the programs, as well as managing volunteers on a daily basis
  • Leading all volunteer activities
  • Assist and actively contribute to project development
  • Act as an enthusiastic role model for volunteers and provide feedback, guidance and mentorship
  • Attend staff meetings as an integral member of the team
  • Support base management by ensuring chore duties are complete and GVI’s high health and safety standards are met
  • Adopt a flexible working week including evenings and weekends, which may include overnight supervision of volunteers at the volunteer house
  • Represent GVI at all times whilst in Cambodia
  • Assist the line manager to ensure that the programs continue to operate to a high standard for both volunteers and project partners

Required

  • Previous volunteering experience
  • Commitment, drive and enthusiasm to develop yourself and motivate others
  • Hardworking, with the ability to show and use initiative
  • Flexible, open-minded and adaptable
  • Easy-going and excited about being a part of a global family on a mission to make a difference

Advantageous

  • Previous teaching experience
  • Emergency First Response Instructor
  • Experience living in a communal setting
  • Group management experience
  • Experience living in a foreign country or a remote location
