Overview

To support the transformation of the borough’s greenspaces in accordance with the Council’s Vision and Priorities, the Borough Manifesto, Growth Strategy and Parks and Open Spaces Strategy (POSS) 2017.

Be a champion for our parks and open spaces and be the ‘friendly face’ of the Council and Ranger Service.

Provide a visible and approachable site presence and act as the main point contact for the local community, visitors and other service users.

Develop, promote and deliver a creative and imaginative programme of community focused education and outreach activities, including environmental education and nature conservation, community engagement and volunteering, health improvement, community food growing and play.

Support the work of the wider Ranger Service to ensure that:

  • Agreed outcomes are delivered on time, within budget and to the expected standards.
  • There is a process of planned, continual improvement in the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of provision.

Special requirements for this post

  • Must have a Full Drivers License (clean) which would be checked by our Fleet Team. This would enable them to travel to various sites and to transport heavy tools/machinery and materials around the borough.
  • The successful applicant will be required to work occasional weekend shifts as required.
  • Will be required to wear Ranger Service uniform at all times.
  • The successful candidate will be required to work in all weathers and will be provided with Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must pass DBS check for working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • This is a very active role so the candidate must be prepared for extensive walking and carrying out practical activities.

About you

  • The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people of all ages and backgrounds to engage and encourage more visitors to their local green spaces.
  • You will have proven experience to ENGAGE and lead children/adults focused events and activities ranging from either outdoor environmental education; and/or conservation volunteering.
  • They must have the ability to establish positive working relationships and work closely with colleagues/associates, e.g. councillors, council officers, community groups, residents and contractors.
  • will have experience working with the community and/or stakeholder engagement and RESPOND to enquiries and complaints effectively and professionally.
  • Must be able to inspire and engage the local community to get involved in their parks and open spaces to help DELIVER the park priorities (London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Parks and Open Space Strategy, Tree Strategy and Council Manifesto).

This individual must have the ability to resolve problems efficiently by using existing services and resources.

It is important that this candidate is able to work effectively both within the team and lone working.
