The key functions of the role are to comment on the impact of planning applications on public rights of way, to prepare reports on whether proposals for diversion or extinguishment of public rights of way meet with the statutory tests for the making of Public Path Orders and to make, confirm and bring into force Public Path Orders to divert and extinguish rights of way where these are affected by development proposals.
