Duties Summary

Office for Protected Resources carries out specific programs as directed by the agency’s Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA). These include national ESA consultations, species listings, recovery plans, status reviews, 5 year reviews and critical habitat designations; MMPA and ESA scientific research permits; and MMPA incidental harassment authorizations, marine mammal take reduction planning and the national stranding response network for protected species.
