Biology and geography field work

Do you crave working outdoors doing field work? Would you like to inspire children to connect with nature rather than their phones? At Ecofieldtrips we are always looking for qualified biologists/marine scientist/geographers to join our team of environmental education field teaching staff.

Here at Ecofieldtrips, we value helping the next generation understand the complex environmental issues that surround them every day. Currently we are celebrating our 25th anniversary we have we have reaching over 3000 students per year, taking them into environments that they might never otherwise visit. Our staff come from all around the globe to share their passion for nature-whether it’s helping IB students with rainforest survey techniques or introducing children to basic marine biology on a coral reef. INTERNSHIP and EXPERIENCED INTAKES: JANUARY 2023 & AUGUST 2023

The primary aim of the internship is to provide unique opportunities for training in the field of environmental education programmes. Interns will learn how to competently execute all dimensions of field trips. The 6 months provide both challenging and rewarding work in which you will get out as much as you put in.

The role will include but is not limited to:

Field Work-Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, (65%)

Teaching small groups of students (10-12 per intern) environmental science themes while out in nature.
Travelling on an almost weekly basis to Malaysia, Indonesia, or Vietnam.
Giving presentations to large groups of students.
Assisting with the safe and efficient organisation of large group movements in a variety of ecosystems such as coral reefs, rainforest, plantations, mangroves and freshwater streams or urban environments.
Taking leadership in any personal area of expertise.
Management of client expectations in terms of professionalism and programme objectives.
Assisting with statistical or data analysis of environmental data collected by students.
Office Work-Singapore (25%)

Creating educational resources for students to use inside of the classroom.
Performing administrative tasks including but not limited to: balancing budgets, equipment inventory, supply shopping, market research, and creating logistics sheets and itineraries for trips.
Training-Singapore and Malaysia (10%)

Learning how to manage students in a field setting.
Honing in on field identification skills and field survey data collection techniques.
Statistical analysis, presentation and teaching training in office.

The ideal candidate would have:

Essential

Must fit the criteria to qualify for a Singaporean Work Holiday Pass (visit www.mom.gov.sg for further details) or entitlement to work in any of our operational base countries (listed below in company description)
A university degree in a biology, geography, sociology, sports science, art, outdoor education or related subject.
Environmental fieldwork in physical processes in nature, human tourism interactions or biological organism sampling.
First aid certification (or the willingness to obtain one prior to start date).
Passport with at least 6 empty pages.
Up to date DBS/blue card or criminal background check (or ability to obtain one prior to start date).
Comfortable working with children ages 8-18.
Public speaking in front of large groups (50+).
A high level of swimming competency in the ocean.
Hardworking and enthusiastic attitude.
Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
Ability to carry 40 lbs, outdoors, in all weather conditions and on difficult terrain.

Desirable

Dive certification. Marine biologists/Dive instructors may have broader opportunities.
Life guarding.
Yoga experience.
High level of experience in outdoor activities, including but not limited to: hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting.
Firm grasp on statistical analysis.
Experience working with/teaching school groups, preferably outdoors.
An understanding of the ecology and environmental issues relevant to South East Asia.
Remuneration:

Interns will be provided with food and accommodation for the duration of the internship as well as a stipend to cover additional expenses. All costs on tris covered. Interns will be required to cover their return flights to and from Singapore as well as adequate travel insurance.
