Senior Ecologist, Derbyshire (£26-33.5k & Benefits)

You will have the chance to become involved in a variety of interesting, complex and high-profile projects for a wide-range of clients, and to develop your skills in all aspects of consultancy work through mentoring, a structured review process and training programme.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer benefits that include a flexible working policy, contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave and childcare vouchers amongst others.

What we are looking for

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous relevant professional experience (a track record in ecological consultancy / in the ecology sector)
  • A technical specialism and / or one or more protected species licences
  • Knowledge and understanding of the planning system and current wildlife legislation
  • Confidence in written and verbal communication and a demonstrable track record in both
  • Project management experience
  • The ability to understand, identify and resolve ecological issues
  • A genuine enthusiasm for ecology and the environment in the UK
  • The desire to promote high professional standards in ecology
  • An organised approach to work, flexibility and a high level of motivation
  • A good BSc or an MSc in a relevant subject
  • A full driving licence.

This is a great opportunity to join our experienced, friendly and innovative Oxford team, and one of the largest independent ecological consultancies in the UK.

You will have the chance to become involved in a variety of interesting, complex and high-profile projects for a wide-range of clients, and to develop your skills in all aspects of consultancy work through mentoring, a structured review process and training programme.

Our office is in a small business park on a diversified farm at Cassington, just north of Oxford; staff can make use of a heated swimming pool, tennis courts and an on-site café.

Director of Ecology, Cambridge – (£50k / negotiable + benefits)

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced ecologist looking to develop their career within an award winning, independent consultancy with over 20 years of professional practice.

Cambridge is a strategic priority for BSG and the Director will take on the responsibility of leading this small but growing office in an economically vibrant area of the UK.

There are excellent opportunities for career advancement, and to work closely with the Partners to lead, grow and develop the Cambridge team, and to shape the core business of the office. The Director will also be expected to contribute positively to the direction of the business more widely. Clear business and professional development objectives will be identified, and resources and experience from across the company will be provided in order to meet these.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ten or more years of consultancy experience working at a high level
  • An ability to lead, influence, and mentor teams of ecologists
  • A wide range of ecological experience
  • The ability to develop excellent relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Extensive experience of writing and reviewing complex reports
  • A track record in delivering technically demanding and large-scale projects
  • A keen commercial focus and interest in business development
