Overview

We are looking for an ecologist to undertake our Spring and Summer wildlife surveying across our 3300 acres wetland reserve in Kent.

We would like an naturalist/ecologist to join our team from this April to undertake our breeding wader survey along with a broader surveying role with full access across Elmley’s 3300 acres to record, identify and communicate about many of our wonderful inhabitants.

We have over 600 pairs of breeding waders at Elmley each Spring. Our core research into breeding productivity has been runninng for 10 years so this is a great opportunity for a young ecologist to spend the Spring and Summer in the field, surveying, learning more about waders and their ecology at landscape scale. The wider remit will allow the successful applicant to study a range of other brids, inverts and mammals from our large watervole population, 12 pairs of marsh harriers to our abundant dung beetles!

The right person will have a ‘can-do’ attitude, be self-motivated, have well practised fieldcraft and an excellent knowledge of waders and other ground-nesting birds. A knowledge of breeding wader survey techniques is an advantage but not essential.

The paid role will come with accommodation and on-Reserve 4×4.
