Wild Rivers Conservancy is currently recruiting applicants for a Forestry Stewardship internship during the summer of 2022. Positions will be 12-14 weeks, beginning June 1st, 2022.

Description of Internship 

This position is with Wild Rivers Conservancy, and is supervised by the Wild Rivers Conservancy’s Forestry Program Coordinator. It provides recent graduates or students with practical work experience in the field of environmental stewardship. The intern will have the opportunity to learn and develop many technical, field and communication skills from a wide variety of partner agencies and organizations, all while being outside working throughout the St. Croix River watershed.

Major Duties 

  • Distribute and assist in the creation of educational and outreach materials at community events and webinars.
  • Assist in the creation of virtual programming and events, including creating content for the My St. Croix Woods social media pages and web page.
  • Assist with the delivery of landowner and professional continuing education workshops and programs.
  • Assist with management of the Conservancy’s landowner engagement database.
  • Assist with GIS analysis and creation of maps for landscape prioritization, management planning, and landowner outreach tracking.
  • Work with the National Parks Service to inventory and monitor terrestrial invasive species throughout the watershed.
  • Work with diverse partners, including consulting foresters, local, state and federal government agencies, and nonprofit organizations throughout the watershed.

Skills Required 

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Recent graduate or college student with coursework in forestry, natural sciences, natural resources, or a related field. Other majors or courses of study may be considered.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, be detail-oriented and organized, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate information with private landowners and the public.
  • Some field experience is preferred.
  • Some experience with GIS and database management is preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently, and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be willing and able to work some weekends and evenings.

Work Site and Conditions 

  • Intern will be based at the Wild Rivers Conservancy’s office in Osceola, Wisconsin.
  • There will be travel throughout the upper St. Croix watershed in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  • Work in the field is required and will involve some physical activity, including walking, hiking, standing for long periods of time, and occasionally paddling a kayak or canoe at a variety of locations.
  • Schedules can be variable or on a week to week basis.
  • Full COVID vaccination is required for position eligibility.

Position and Wage Details 

This is a temporary internship ranging 30-40 hours weekly for a period of 12-14 weeks at a wage of $14/hr.
