Overview

The purpose of the role is to organise and participate in a variety of ecological surveys over the period of the contract alongside providing ecological clerk works when required. You will be responsible for the planning, preparation and smooth running of surveys including sub-contractor management and supporting the ecology team in resourcing and delivering projects in a safe and professional manner.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Survey planning and organisation of resources including sub-contractors and kit
  • Sub-contractor management and communications
  • Field survey management including compilation, distribution and collation of survey forms, risk assessment and working method statement production
  • Field surveys for preliminary ecological appraisal and protected species including newts, bats, reptiles, badgers, otter, breeding bird checks and others as directed/trained
  • Deployment and collection of survey equipment including bat remote detectors and cameras
  • Survey access arrangements with clients and police
  • Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Bat call analysis and collation of results in a format ready for reporting on
  • GIS map production
  • Adherence to Health and Safety policies and practices, including Risk Assessment production

Experience

  • Min. one seasons working/volunteering in ecology consultancy
  • Report writing
  • QGIS use for map production
  • Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment experience
  • Protected Species Surveys (e.g. GCN, bat and badger)
  • Bat call analysis and reporting
  • Logistic/survey planning desirable
  • Preliminary ecological

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and application of wildlife and habitats legislation
  • Understanding of field survey methodologies for a range of protected species including bat and great created newt
  • Biodiversity Net Gain and its application, including the Biodiversity Metric V3
  • Social media

Skills and qualifications

  • Min. of BSc degree in Ecology or closely related subject or a minimum of 3-year survey experience
  • CSCS card
  • CIEEM membership (min Qualifying) desirable
