Location: York, 1 St. George’s Place, York, YO24 1GN (with flexibility to be based at any of our regional offices, which are located in Doncaster, Huddersfield, Flamborough and Hull). Yorkshire Wildlife Trust supports both hybrid (a mix of office and home) and flexible working.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Grants Officer. The successful candidate will fundraise income for YWT by working in collaboration with colleagues across the Region to initiate, manage and develop a comprehensive programme of bids and applications up to 7 figures to grant schemes and grant-making trusts and foundations

Other duties will include managing a research programme that identifies and helps to establish contact with new sources of grant income, keeping accurate and updated records of where these contacts may be realised to generate additional income to the Trust. The post holder will also work cross-functionally to ensure a comprehensive relationship management programme is in place with existing and potential funders to add strength to our applications and build support for future applications

Main Purpose of the Role

  • To secure fundraised income for YWT by working in collaboration with colleagues across the Region to initiate, manage and develop a comprehensive programme of bids and applications up to 7 figures to grant schemes and grant-making trusts and foundations
  • To manage resources to achieve optimum income generation across all grant fundraising activities
  • To work in cooperation with colleagues at RSWT and YWT to ensure administration and organisation of data is undertaken in compliance with the Trusts policies and procedures

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To work with colleagues to research, identify and make contact with all appropriate landfill, grant and trust funders in order to establish their funding criteria, guidelines and potential to fund Trust work and secure funding for YWT
  • To work with colleagues to develop bids which meet ambitious annual fundraising targets and reporting on quarterly scorecard measures
  • To further develop relationships with existing grant funders in order to build upon and increase financial support for the Trust
  • To work with the wider fundraising and engagement team, as well as regional colleagues to initiate and produce relevant and appropriate communications to fulfil any funder obligations
  • To ensure that data held about grant schemes, and grants making trusts and foundations complies with data protection and is relevant, up to date and accessible; using tools such as the CRM to ensure Trust business can be conducted in the most efficient manner
  • To manage a research programme that identifies and helps to establish contact with new sources of grant income, keeping accurate and updated records of where these contacts may be realised to generate additional income to the Trust
  • To work cross-functionally to ensure a comprehensive relationship management programme is in place with existing and potential funders to add strength to our applications and build support for future applications
  • To understand the role of RSWT in relation to the Trust and liaise closely with the relevant members of staff with regard to Grant fundraising activities at YWT
  • To work with Fundraising Manager to develop a pipeline of restricted funding bids to secure fundraised income for priority work at the Trust
  • To keep up to date with best practice in fundraising and comply with relevant legislation and regulation, and to work within the organisation’s policies and procedures to ensure that good practice is observed and implemented across the organisation

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience of successful grants fundraising for a charitable or voluntary sector organisation
  • Proven experience of providing excellent standards of supporter care and understanding the relationship of this to income
  • Highly articulate individual with excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of managing multiple projects and working to strict deadlines

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of grant-making bodies and available sources of grant funding in the UK
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of how to accurately and safely collect, process, and maintain data in line with organisational policy for subsequent interrogation, analysis and review
  • Proven ability to be flexible enough to take on the ideas of other people and can adapt ideas and way of working to meet the needs of others
  • Understanding of the variety of income streams that the Trust might use and a proven track record of effective fundraising
  • Proven ability to take a creative and imaginative approach to developing funding bids and applications

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Able to build and develop relationships and work effectively and mindfully across teams of internal and external stakeholders to deliver shared objectives
  • Excellent organisational, oral and written communication skills with the ability to creatively construct funding proposals to engage a variety of audiences
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Highly competent in use of Windows/Microsoft Office-based computing skills, including word, Excel, database, email etc.
  • Driving licence and ability to regularly travel to our remote sites and reserves

Personal Qualities

  • Natural communicator, highly articulate and passionate and able to convey information in a compelling and sensitive way to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work in a highly organised way whilst maintaining the flexibility to respond to opportunities to secure grant funding
  • Proven experience in working with independence, intelligence, drive and initiative
  • Seek out staff knowledge and be prepared to share own expertise and knowledge
