South Sugarloaf Fire Rehabilitation Project Background Information On August 17th, 2018 lightening started the South Sugarloaf Fire on the Mountain City, Ruby Mountains, Jarbidge Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest (HTNF).  The fire burned approximately 145,000 acres of NFS land, 80,000 acres of private land, and 10,000 acres of other federal or state land. The fire burned numerous watersheds that are tributary to Wildhorse Reservoir, the Owyhee River, and the North Fork of the Humboldt River. The North Fork of the Humboldt is occupied habitat for Lahontan Cutthroat Trout (LCT), a federally-listed species.
