Lead on developing high profile analysis of significant work to protect the environment.

The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) was established in 2021. Our mission is to protect and recover the environment. We do this by holding government and public bodies to account. It’s high profile, dynamic work that has a real and positive impact on the state of our natural world.

You’ll have a leading role in our Insights Directorate, which leads on preparing reports on environmental progress for the Westminster Government and Northern Ireland Executive. The team also supports investigation of environmental complaints and, where necessary, legal action. Its broad remit spans biodiversity, habitat quality, rivers and seas, air quality, waste and resources.

As a Head of Environment and Policy Analysis you’ll work at a strategic level with experts, universities, research centres and think tanks to gain valuable insight into the latest environmental trends. You will assemble and lead teams to turn that information into accessible reports for Ministers, Parliament and the public. This is high profile work, so you can expect significant exposure to our Chief Executive and Board. We are currently recruiting to three different roles. One focuses on developing high-impact environmental reporting in England, another on scrutinising the progress of environmental improvement in Northern Ireland, and the third on analysing our role in complaints, investigations, litigation, consultation and monitoring across both countries.

An inspirational leader, you will bring to any of these roles a proven ability to build teams who work to an organisational mission. Experience of engaging at board level and externally to deliver a shared vision is vital, as is a track record of managing programmes. Your ability to communicate with clarity, integrity and enthusiasm is every bit as important as your flair for analysing and evaluating policy and evidence. This has equipped you in your career to build insight and analytical capability by forming partnerships and relationships across organisational boundaries.

In addition to the rewarding nature of the job itself, you will enjoy a range of benefits including flexible working, generous annual leave, and outstanding support for learning and development.
