Overview

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) seeks a land conversion specialist. This position is responsible for researching and reviewing federal and state recreation grant project information to determine if proposed projects will result in “conversions of use.” The successful candidate will have the ability to learn, understand, interpret and communicate the nuances of the conversion processes for federal Land and Water Conservation Fund Act-funded projects and various state-funded projects. The successful candidate will utilize GIS; a data collector app; interactive mapping applications; other software and paper files to complete conversion-related research, reviews and coordination.

Job Duties

  • The land conversion specialist will be the primary point of contact and liaison for transportation-related projects.
  • This position requires some travel and regular meetings with a variety of professional staff at all levels of government, and a variety of non-government organizations, including National Park Service (NPS) staff; state, county and municipal officials; attorneys; members of the legislative community; planners; design engineers; environmental managers and recreation managers.

Absolute Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus related work or other experience in geography, environmental science, urban and regional planning, environmental planning, recreation or another closely related field

Requirements 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional training and/or experience with ArcGIS
