Wild Eskdale is an exciting and innovative project hosted by The Langholm Initiative. Promoting eco-tourism, education, youth training and intergenerational mentorship programs, the project not only aims to put Langholm and Eskdale firmly on the eco-tourism map but to enable the local communities to benefit from their rich natural heritage. The Langholm and Newcastleton Hills are an important habitat for many upland species including the rare Hen Harrier, a nationally endangered raptor which breeds on the moor. The moor is currently designated as a SSSI and a Hen Harrier SPA. Wild Eskdale is the continuation of the award winning Moorland Education projects and will continue to work with local schools and interest groups to provide education and access to the areas natural beauty.
