Overview

LEAF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the urban forest. Our residential planting programs and education/outreach programs have been connecting residents to the urban forest for over two decades.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and capable Residential Planting Programs (RPP) Planting and Stewardship Coordinator. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge of arboriculture, and superior customer service skills.

The list below outlines the major tasks related to the position; however, additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

RPP Field Operations (50%)

  • Conduct consultations with individual property owners following LEAF’s guidelines for tree/shrub selection and placement
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of all information
  • Deliver educational messages and materials in person and through phone/email contact with participants
  • Carry out seasonal tree planting
  • Drive cube truck following LEAF safety guidelines
  • Strictly follow safety and quality guidelines for all plantings
  • Keep paperwork organized, taking detailed notes when appropriate
  • Conduct health inspections of trees and shrubs previously planted by LEAF
  • Represent LEAF in a professional manner

RPP Office Operations (40%)

  • Front-line client communication and education
  • Carry out various administrative duties including database entry, queries and reporting, client communications, consultation bookings, financial record-keeping, client invoicing, processing payments and banking
  • Conduct research as needed
  • Provide additional support to Residential Planting Program
  • Coordinator and Field Operations Coordinator, as needed

Education and Outreach Operations (10%)

  • assist in planning and implementing planting/stewardship and education events that engage the public
  • educate the public at events through outreach tables, presentations and workshops

Qualifications:

  • pre-qualification for the Government of Canada wage funding program https://www.eco.ca/eyc/internquiz
  • Graduated from a university or college program in urban forestry, environmental studies or related field
    ISA arborist certification a strong asset; if not currently certified, you must pre-qualify with ISA to write the arborist exam
  • Skills and experience in the fields of arboriculture and/or urban forestry
  • Knowledge of native trees and shrubs
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service
    Ability to determine priorities, adhere to deadlines and multi-task
  • Attention to detail and superior organization skills
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Experience in public outreach/education
  • Proven ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, emphasis on Access
  • Ability to handle physical demands of heavy lifting, outdoor work and long hours
  • Must have your own weather-appropriate work clothing and steel-toed boots
  • Must have full “G” driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Emergency First Aid + CPR and AED Certification considered an asset
