The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has a great collection of parks and open spaces providing 463 hectares of publicly accessible greenspace. The borough portfolio, which consists of eight ‘District Parks’, eleven ‘Local Parks’ and nine ‘Small Open Spaces’, is valued and well used by residents and many visitors to the borough. However, Barking and Dagenham is going to experience a period of rapid housing growth with over 35,000 new homes being provided at various sites over the next 20 years. New public open spaces will be at the centre of these new developments.
