This 2 week placement is based on the undeveloped coast of the Red Sea where there are various coral reef structures, 3 separate protected mangrove locations and extensive sea grass meadows all with an incredible depth of marine life and all unaffected by the global tourism boom.

Diving is extremely varied with numerous pristine coral gardens, challenging wall dives, off shore ergs, sea grass meadows, extensive cavern systems and a resident pod of dolphins.

This practical placement provides an ideal opportunity to get involved in many aspects of Marine Conservation.

There are opportunities to study and monitor fringing reefs, sea grass meadows, mangroves, fossil reefs and much more.

As well as diving, reef cleaning and marine research, this marine conservation practical placement involves assisting with education and action with the local community to reduce environmental impacts created by the modernisation of society. Students can get involved with face to face interviews with the local community fisherman whose families have been fishing the Red Sea for as long as they can remember; meetings with the authorities that control and monitor the fishing regulations; practical experience in conducting various clean ups and visits to various sites of different types of pollution such as oil, chemical, construction etc.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on marine research experience. We include a choice of any 2 accredited Marine Animal Rescue/Zoology/Biology/Conservation/Ichthyology Diploma course as part of this practical placement with the opportunity to put the theory in to practice by learning widely used data collection techniques & fish and coral identification and optional participation in citizens science coral monitoring project.
