Overview

If you are passionate about engaging audiences with UK nature and have knowledge of invertebrate conservation, this is a great opportunity to make an impact on some of London’s largest and busiest green spaces.

About Us

Created in March 2017, The Royal Parks is a charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London. Millions of Londoners and tourists visit our beautiful sites, which offer unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and healthy living in the heart of the capital.

We look after eight of London’s largest open spaces; Hyde Park, The Green, Richmond, Greenwich, St James’s, Bushy and The Regent’s Parks, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner.

Established in 2017, Mission: Invertebrate (MI) aims to enrich wildlife across London’s Royal Parks by supporting invertebrates, the parks’ most important inhabitants. Funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the project aims to get people of all ages involved to ensure MI’s impact lasts long into the future.

We’re currently looking for a Mission: Invertebrate Project Manager to join us and support the ongoing delivery of this ambitious project. This is a maternity cover contract, lasting up to 10 months.

The Benefits

  • Salary of £35,762 – £43,223 pro rata
  • Pension scheme
  • 26 days’ holiday pro rata plus public holidays

Invertebrates are a cornerstone of biodiversity and underpin our populations of birds, small mammals and their predators, the quality of our soils and waterbodies, the abundance and variety of plant species and the health of our trees. Investment in their conservation is vital.

This is an amazing opportunity to ensure that our parks are a place where invertebrates thrive. You’ll have the chance to improve habitats and change people’s perceptions, so the incredible creatures living in our urban green spaces are protected.

What’s more, you’ll benefit from an inspiring work environment at the LookOut, a unique, eco-friendly building nestled in an acre of enclosed grounds in the heart of Hyde Park.

The Role

As the Project Manager, you’ll ensure the successful delivery and continued development of the MI project.

Overseeing all project elements, you’ll lead your team and drive the delivery of all park projects and survey works in line with funder requirements.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Supporting your team to deliver large impact activities under the theme of soil, including community engagement, specialist surveys and park habitat works
  • Working with our learning partners to deliver our school and family programmes for 2021
  • Managing marketing and communications requirements for the year
  • Overseeing the delivery and expansion of our new PACE (Partnerships and Community Engagement) project and other community engagement events
  • Liaising with, and reporting to, our funder

About You

To join us as the Project Manager, you will need:

  • Demonstrable experience of developing, delivering, monitoring and evaluating projects, working with colleagues across an organisation
  • Experience of creating and delivering media opportunities
  • Line management experience, including the ability to train, lead and motivate a team
  • Experience of liaising, reporting and securing ongoing funding
  • In-depth knowledge and practical skills in invertebrate conservation, in a park, horticulture or nature reserve setting
  • To be passionate about engaging audiences with UK nature, particularly invertebrates
  • An awareness of equality and diversity, health and safety and safeguarding
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A degree in Natural Sciences, Conservation, Ecology or equivalent
  • A valid driving licence
