Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest established international conservation organisation. Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it. We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation. Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

FFI has been working in the Kerinci Seblat landscape in the Indonesian province of Jambi on community-managed forest issues for almost two decades, with funding from a variety of sources.  Most recently, significant funding has been provided by M.A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP) and in order to undertake a monitoring, evaluation and learning exercise to understand the reasons behind the success of the project to date, they have provided funds specifically to allow this research exercise to be undertaken.

Additional questions around forest health and resilience, biodiversity, institutional impacts, livelihoods, and socio-economic impacts of the work on communities and other stakeholders will be developed as the project matures. FFI is seeking a research coordinator to undertake this work.

We are looking for a post-doctoral level researcher to lead a programme of applied research into the effects of our community forestry interventions in Jambi. You will have demonstrated experience in socio-ecological research, conducting surveys, collecting and analysing data, with familiarity of the statistical limitations of applied conservation datasets, but a drive to be as rigorous as possible within those limitations. A strong proven track record in research and scientific writing and publishing will be key; as will the ability to provide strategic advice and technical input to the design, development, implementation and evaluation of projects. In addition, you will be a skilled and credible communicator, who is confident in developing and managing relationships with partner organisations and relevant stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have on-the-ground project experience in developing and/or middle-income countries, and be used to working alone, but as part of a team, including overseeing and engaging with dedicated field researchers in country and potential academic partners. Extensive experience of working in Indonesia and a working fluency in Indonesian would be a distinct advantage.
