You will be contracted to the NRW location stated in this advert, of which you will be required to attend for regular meetings, training and for one-to-one meetings with your manager. These will be planned in advance.

Job Description

Many species and habitats in Wales are in serious decline. You will be part of a local team delivering NRW’s biodiversity and ecosystem resilience strategy, ‘Vital Nature’ and work with partners, including Welsh Government, on specific projects that address the wider “Nature Emergency”. You will need enthusiasm and drive as well as experience of working with partners and stakeholders and have a good knowledge of terrestrial biodiversity. The role aims to deliver conservation management within North East Wales as well as specific habitat focused projects to bring sites into better condition over a wider area.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work with NRW staff and external partners, particularly non-governmental Environment organisations to develop partnership projects that will reverse biodiversity declines.
  • Identify and develop proposals for capital and grant aid funding for actions and projects in Place driven by Vital Nature and Area Statement priorities, consistent with SMNR principles.
  • Monitor project progress and undertake regular reviews to ensure full delivery of projects within the project timeframe.
  • Work with Environment, Land Management Team and Land owners to help deliver Management Agreements.
  • Ensure that implementation and reporting of the project fully adheres to NRW policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all projects have the necessary permissions/consents to proceed.
  • Monitor progress of work, which may include interpretation of data, contractor management, project delivery or compliance with management agreements Identify and support any remedial actions to ensure outcome delivery. Gather evidence to check that claim submissions are appropriate
  • Incident Response requirements: Required to take part in incident response activities
Qualifications, experience and knowledge

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the following:

  1. Experience of nature conservation, biodiversity, protected sites & landscapes in marine or terrestrial environment.
  2. Experience of working with landowners and/or other stakeholders.
  3. Strong and effective self-management and organisational skills.
  4. The ability to influence, negotiate and gain cooperation of others. Experience of dealing successfully with difficult people / situations is important.
  5. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with a customer focus.
  6. Excellent at building effective working relationship with colleagues and external partners
  7. Ability to write clear, concise technical reports.
  8. The ability to use specialised IT systems, such as GIS or NRW customised applications.
  9. Able to work well as part of a team.
  10. Hold a current full UK valid licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles
Welsh language requirements

Essential: Level 1 – Able to pronounce Welsh and use basic phrases

Desirable: Level 3 – Able to communicate with confidence in Welsh in some work situations

  • Responsible for the safe and legal use and keeping of tools and equipment used to carry out their work.
  • Post holders will have oversight of contractors and the associated costs.
