Overview

Provision of expert advice to Development Management and Strategic & Citywide Planning on all aspects of nature conservation policy and practice, ensuring that, within the scope of the planning process, the City’s wildlife resource is protected and improved.

Duties:

  • You will be providing expert ecology advice to planning officers and project managers on nature conservation issues in planning policy, planning applications, and corporate projects.
  • Providing specialist advice to planning case officers to ensure that nature conservation matters are taken fully into consideration in the planning process.
  • Inputting to the development of planning policy in respect of specific sites, and across the City.
  • Helping to establish our organizational approaches and working practices in response to the Environment Act and Biodiversity Net Gain.

Requirements:

  • Provide expert advice to Development Management and Strategic & Citywide Planning on all aspects of statutory nature conservation practice including statutory duties, enforcement, defense of decisions, and policy development.
  • Support and advise on the Council’s organizational response to Ecological Emergency and the development of Biodiversity Net Gain best practice services.
  • Work in partnership with the development sector to raise the standard of planning proposals in order to protect and provide for wildlife.
  • Advise on the availability and use of up-to-date biological records.
  • Support the maintenance, monitoring, and development of the network of locally protected wildlife and geological sites.
  • Model and promote good equalities practice and value diversity across the service.
