Overview

The ideal applicant will be a very creative individual and will possess an excellent knowledge of the digital media landscape, including various social media sites and will have a strong interest in wildlife and conservation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the firm’s social media programme, monitoring and posting on social networks, creating and managing content, working with social media partners, helping to manage our ambassador programme and participating in online outreach and promotion.

Summary

  • To manage and develop Opticron’s social media activity across all channels
  • To engage with wildlife audiences with the aims of increasing brand awareness, driving traffic to Opticron websites, retail partners, outdoor events and more
  • Deliver a mixture of scheduled and live content, reactive sharing from partners, Ambassadors and wildlife channels
  • Use social media channels conversationally and make Opticron present in the conservation and wildlife ‘area’

Responsibilities and Duties

The Digital Marketing Executive (DME) will:

  • work with colleagues in the sales team, in-house designer, Ambassadors, social media partners and content creators to generate engaging content for the Opticron social media channels and website focused on its products, wildlife watching and conservation
  • post scheduled content at optimal times and be present at key times, including light-touch monitoring outside of office hours as required
  • look for opportunities to work with naturalists and young social media influencers in the segment to cross promote stories
  • monitor and reply to social media messages
  • create product adverts for Facebook and Twitter
  • represent the Opticron brand, maintaining a down-to-earth, professional, expert and friendly voice
  • regularly analyse content and social media activity and in consultation with senior managers adapt the social media strategy to fit best practice
  • follow and act upon the company’s social media risk management policy if required

The DME will report jointly to the sales and marketing manager and senior partner.

Key performance indicators may include:

  • measuring and reporting on engagement rates and number of engagements
  • identifying best-performing posts
  • monitoring and reporting on influencer and other partners social media activity
  • measuring and maintaining the balance of content targeting (audience focused versus sales & marketing based)
  • monitoring and reporting on frequency of posting, volume of content creation and acquisition and message response rates
  • benchmarking against competitors and other voices in the wildlife and conservation area

Qualifications and Skills

  • In-depth working knowledge of social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
  • Working knowledge and possible experience of scheduling applications (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent educational qualification) or demonstrable experience in a similar role in the non-profit or commercial sectors
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Working knowledge and possible experience of social media analytical and management tools including Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite and Twitter Analytics
  • Working knowledge of image manipulation applications such as Photoshop or GIMP

Remuneration and Benefits

Hours: fully flexible 20 hours per week to include some early morning, evening and pre-agreed weekend working

Remuneration: £23,000 to £25,000 pro rata depending on skills and experience

Overtime available during peak periods and new projects

* The DME is a hybrid role mixing working remotely with regular visits to the company’s office in Luton, Bedfordshire to meet and work with colleagues.
