Orangutan Foundation, founded in 1990, has a unique and diverse approach to orangutan conservation. Orangutan Foundation operates its own programmes in Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo and our work is carried out by a team of dedicated Indonesian staff.  We work in collaboration with The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry.  We place a strong emphasis on capacity building of key stakeholders who include local communities, local NGO’s, local business and regional government. With their inclusion comes conservation success and sustainability.

Communication and Project Officer Role

The Communication and Project Officer will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the Orangutan Foundation’s UK office and in raising the profile of this international conservation charity. Working as part of a small team, reporting directly to the Director and you will work closely with the Finance Officer and manage a small group of UK volunteers in addition to external relationships with donors and supporters.  This multi-dimensional role requires a motivated and proactive individual, who can manage their own workload and has excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Responsibilities (but are not limited to):

1.       Develop and write grant applications

2.       Research and identify prospective trusts and foundations

3.       Manage the social media programme. Create digital communications and develop social media content, monthly e-news and members’ biannual newsletter

4.       Work with the Director and Finance Officer to deliver exceptional member and donor stewardship

5.       Maintain and update the charity’s website and online shop. Process shop orders, adoptions and donations from various online channels

6.       Respond to enquiries of supporters and members of the public

7.       Ensure the charity’s database is kept up to date and accurately maintained

8.       Support individual fundraisers and attend charity events

9.       Deliver educational talks

Essential experience and requirements:

·         Educated to degree level

·         Relevant experience in grant-writing, with at least 18 months fundraising from trusts and foundations

·         Experience of identifying and researching funding opportunities

·         Excellent written communications skills

·         Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

·         Ability to create compelling digital communications about the Orangutan Foundation’s conservation field programmes

·         Knowledge of wildlife conservation

·         A willingness to work occasional weekends or evenings

This full-time role has a minimum a salary of £24,000 (dependent on qualifications and experience) and 20 days holiday per annum. This position is based in the London office. Applicants must be UK residents or be legally permitted to work in the UK.
